In today’s hectic, hustle, bustle world we find that heart problems seem to be near pandemic levels. Most everyone I know has or knows someone who has heart related problems. We are very concerned by this trend and would like to offer some help in this situation. There are some herbs that help heal and strengthen the actual heart muscle. Prime among these is the Hawthorn Berry; fresh or dried both are excellent for the heart. These berries have been used for centuries to help with heart problems. It helps improve the blood flow to the heart and it actually strengthens the cardiac muscle. They taste pretty good, a little bitter, but not something that will bother you. I use them in a tea with other herbs to improve their flavor.

Another herb that helps the heart is the common rose. It is reported in A Modern Herbal that the rose helps strengthen the heart, stomach, and liver. It is best in tea form, giving a pleasant aroma and taste to any tea that you mix it in.

Next we will discuss is the peppermint plant, which grows like a weed in some parts of the country. It is believed to help as a nerve stimulant and reduce heartburn. It also stimulates circulation and strengthens the heart muscle. So as you can see, it is a great all around beneficial herb that also contains vitamin A and C along with a number of beneficial minerals. Not only does it help with digestion and coronary issues it tastes really good.

Now, for the recipe for a heart healthy tea that you can make at home:

1 part Rose Petals 1 part Hawthorn Berries (Crategnus oxdycantha) and a liberal dose of Peppermint leaves. Heat water to 180degrees F and steep the mixture for five minutes then enjoy the subtle flavors and health benefits. Try to drink at least one cup twice a day for your hearts health.

You may also purchase this special mix in 4 ounce tins, ready to brew, off our website.

The above discussion is not to be taken as medical advice. If you are experiencing any cardiac symptoms please get to the nearest naturopath doctor or hospital for immediate medical attention. This discussion is for informational purposes only; it is meant to spark a dialog between you and your doctor about your heath care.
